Laura Jeffery is a Dancer / Choreographer / Musician presently residing in Tio’tia:ke / Montreal. She is a 2021 graduate from the contemporary dance program at Concordia University, recipient of the James Saya Award, and participant in the Atlas 2021 further Choreographic Training Program at the international dance festival, Impulstanz. During her time in Vienna she had the pleasure of working on research projects with Jennifer Lacey, Keith Hennesy, Ishmael Houston Jones and received mentorship from Guy Cools, Clara Furey and Lara Kramer. As a musician she has played, recorded and toured internationally in multiple bands including Fountain, and Zad Kokar & les Combi Beyaz, Laughing, Babysitter, Tutz, N Nao, and Heaven for Real. Her dance work is playful, experimental and irreverent, influenced by New York’s no-wave movement, Flashdance, and late night infomercials. She strives to make dance works that exist outside of traditional and institutional settings, working to subvert colonialist and hierarchical forms and ideas around contemporary dance performance. Laura's work is centered around connection with others and strives to find sensitive, ethical collaborative structures, channeling her experiences of musical collaboration. Some of her previous choreographic work includes The Big 1, Mr Shifter Presents: some flamingos and a fruit fly, as well as I am the fly in the Plasma Pool which presented in LABdiff at Tangente in May 2024.
