Soraïda Caron

Graduated with a bachelor's degree in contemporary dance from the University of Quebec in Montreal, Soraïda returned to settle in Trois-Pistoles in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Drawing on her experiences as a performer in Montreal and in France, she developed her career as a teacher, performer and choreographer, which earned her the Prize for emerging artists from Bas-Saint-Laurent in 2011. In 2015, she founded the company Mars elle danse of which she is the general director, artistic director and choreographer. The works Belles Bêtes, Lignes de force and Élégante chair are presented in festivals, performance halls and museums across Quebec. In the summer of 2022, she presents the first sketches of the solo Les Petits disturbances at the FURIES and Dansons aux Jardins festival in the Jardins de Métis. She also received the prestigious CALQ Prize - Artist of the Year in Bas-Saint-Laurent for all of her work.
Having at heart the development of an audience for dance in the region, Soraïda has been offering, since 2021, recurring events including the Marathon de la Création dance festival and the event on the quay of Trois-Pistoles Au quai, on danse ! proclaimed Favorite of the MRC des Basques.

In the summer of 2023, she leaves for Germany for a two-month residency at the fabrik choreographic center, Potsdam in partnership with the sculptor Ito Laïla Le François. Back in Quebec, the piece Élégante chair is in the official selection during the Parcours Danse biennial. Artist in residence at the Théâtre du Bic for the next two years, she will create and present her first solo work Les Petits disturbances.
