Renaissance Dance Workshops with Anne-Marie Gardette
November 2 and December 7, from 2 PM to 4 PM
Renaissance Dance Workshops with Anne-Marie Gardette
The Renaissance is an important period for the development of dance in the West, as it saw the emergence of the very first dance manuals. This series of workshops will focus on dances from the Italian courts of the Quattrocento and Cinquecento (bassa danza, balletto, etc.). We will also dance the ballroom repertoire popular in France at the end of the 16th century according to the essential Orchésographie by Thoinot Arbeau (branle, pavane, galliard, etc.).
These workshops are open to everyone, including musicians who play this repertoire (Praetorius, Attaingnant, Gervaise, Phalèse, etc.) and wish to learn the dances.
Each workshop will cover different dances, so they can be attended independently.
