Multidisciplinary artist Elle Barbara, in collaboration with Danse-Cité, is seeking 8 dancers to participate in their new creation: AUTOGYNEGAMY: In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Sanest One, a multidisciplinary ceremonial performance. Performances will take place in May 2025.
Elle Barbara is a Montreal-based avant-garde singer-songwriter, pin-up, performer, and community advocate. Their musical work alternates between elements of sophisticated pop, jazz, soul, glam, and underground. A lover of the unusual, obscure, or overlooked in popular music, Elle gained recognition in DIY artist spaces in the early 2010s and has since achieved cult status.

Elle Barbara and their team aim to create a group of artist-dancers that reflects a rich and diverse microcosm through a variety of ages, backgrounds, and body types.

– Candidates aged 55 and over are encouraged to apply

Availability Required:
Audition: December 8, 2024, 11 AM – 2 PM
Creation and performance periods:
32 hours of rehearsals in March and April 2025
May 1 to June 1, 2025 (inclusive) [Dates and times to be confirmed]
How to Apply for the Audition
1. Step One: Video Application
To apply, send your CV and a video of a dance improvisation or a choreographic excerpt (under 2 minutes). Videos can be sent via private YouTube or Vimeo links to Maud: communication@danse-cite.org.

2. Step Two: In-Person Auditions
The audition will consist of learning a dance sequence and performing it in a group. There will also be an improvisation session to assess candidates’ performance and movement styles. A space will be available for warm-up.
