Workshop | Ivanie Aubin-Malo — Wandering Spirit
9:30AM to 12:30PM
In her current research, Ivanie Aubin-Malo explores movements that are symbolically connected to the Wabanakiak oral stories. The Wabanaki Confederacy includes the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, and Abenaki Nations. Ivanie, being Wolastoq, will share some words in the Wolastoqey language that describe important aspects of this culture, which participants will be invited to translate into movement.
In connection with the concept of time on the land, with the portage route, and certain giants like Kollu, Cinu, kiwahq, or Koluskap, the group will refine their connection to space, the anatomy of a canoe, and the invisible, while also exploring the embodiment of other entities. Small jumps and undulations of the body will be part of the research, as well as nuances in body density and its wholeness (movement radiating from the navel).
Each person may be invited to interpret these concepts through movement and voice. As the principle of interrelationship is very important in the research, participants will develop an increased sensitivity to the group’s shared movements, reminiscent of the synergy of waves.
