Workshop | Andréane Leclerc — Contortion: Opening, Range, and Movement of the Spine
9:30AM to 12:30PM
Being a contortionist does not mean simply “being flexible.” It is an accessible body technique that can be learned, practiced, and developed over time. There are no secrets.
Contortion is an intense awareness of the body’s internal sensations and an intimate dialogue with its limits—its allies. In a constant conversation with the body, contortion seeks to open it rather than bend it. Without ever pushing past its limits, we will learn to collaborate with them, all in complete respect of the body. These classes will be based on specific exercises of active flexibility and extension. We will listen to and serve the body to approach posture, endurance, and explore the possibilities of its range.
Aimed at demystifying movement and the range of the spine, this workshop is for all body artists who:
– Wish to improve their flexibility;
– Discover a new body technique;
– Gain new tools to integrate flexibility into their practice;
– Develop confidence and knowledge that will allow them to venture into specific and particular work on the spine;
– Embark on a new journey into the inner sensations of their body and open up to a new approach to it.
