VIVRE DE DANSE: What can we do with dance?
Discussion space with guests :
Philippe Poirier, Audrey Rochette and Annie Roy
How does dance inform fields as diverse as neonatology, robotics, cooking and artistic activism? From a perspective in which dance deploys the body in its various sensibilities, Tribune 840 takes a look at the transversality of skills acquired by dance artists in fields other than dance. By opening up the discussion to artists who have transferred their experience to other spheres of society, the committee hopes to encourage reflection on an extended career in dance – and beyond – as well as on an artistic approach that is rooted in the living.
Guests will discuss their backgrounds in dance, the arts and other fields, while examining what skills they mobilize and transpose into their plural contexts of activity, ranging from dance to neonatology, robotics, cooking, to artistic activism. How does the relationship to the body they have developed influence the various situations in which they find themselves? What sensibilities emerge in the various territories they explore? How do they observe others, movement and space, both in the professional sphere of dance and in other fields of activity? What forms of relationship to others come into play? How do dance and other professions interact? What strategies, strengths, issues, modes of resistance and critical stances energize the cross-disciplinary careers of our guests? Come and discover the unique trajectories of each of them.
Welcome to all, on March 27, 2025, at lunchtime, starting at 11 a.m., to take part in this round table and discussion space, which will be held on the 2nd floor of UQAM’s Dance Department, with free access and free flowing passages. Parallel to the meeting, several collaborators will contribute to an exhibition featuring video extracts, photographs, interviews and writings, addressing various issues related to the round table theme. A dozen artists’ and professionals’ testimonials will be presented in a variety of formats from March 24 to 27, 2025, on the 2nd floor of the Pavillon de danse. You are warmly invited to browse the spaces and discover the projects and initiatives of the participants.
