About Jamie Wright

A native of New Brunswick, Jamie studied at York University in Toronto, graduating with a BFA in 1997. Arriving in Montreal in 1999, she quickly established herself as a committed and charismatic artist. She danced mainly for the Flak/José Navas company from 2002 to 2008, creating and performing four works (Adela mi amor, Portable Dances, Anatomies and “S”) in Montreal, Canada and Europe.

As a versatile artist, she was part of the cast of Étude No. 3 pour cordes et poulies by Ginette Laurin (2007), S’envoler by Estelle Clareton (2010-2015), Somewhere Between Maybe by Dana Gingras (2015), and the revival of monumental, created by Holy Body Tattoo and Godspeed You! Black Emperor (2016). These projects have led him to perform on stages across Canada and internationally. Since 2006, Jamie has worked closely with Frédérick Gravel and the ArtGravelArtGroup (GAG). She has toured with Gravelworks (2008-2014) and Usually Beauty Fails (2012-2016) and is currently dancing in Some Hope for the Bastards (2017), as well as being an outside eye for This duet we’ve done before (so many times) (2015-present) and Tout se pète la gueule, chérie (2010-present).

As a teacher and instructor, she draws on her extensive experience to pursue her quest to deliver classes and workshops relevant to the current contemporary dance context. Jamie has been regularly teaching dance professionals in Montreal since 2003, and has been a proud faculty member of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal since 2006.
