Teaching the technique class: A course open to the community
The technique class teaching course welcomes you!
Don’t miss the chance to register for DAN3055 – Teaching the Technique Class, offered by the UQAM Department of Dance this winter.
This theoretical and practical course explores the foundations of the technique class while encouraging you to reflect on your teaching practice through the lenses of decolonization and inclusion. Topics covered include: the objectives of the technique class, interdisciplinary approaches, fundamental learning for children and adolescents, didactic strategies, evaluation within the technique class, and concepts related to language practices, touch, and consent.
By the end of this course, you will have developed the following skills:
- Planning an inclusive technique class aligned with targeted learning objectives;
- Recognizing your teaching philosophy and its components;
- Identifying technical elements in relation to the worldviews conveyed by different dance forms;
- Analyzing your pedagogical strategies and choices, as well as those of your peers;
- Applying effective transmission and feedback strategies;
- Designing and implementing an evaluation plan for a technique class.
Format: In-person course, Monday evenings from 6 PM to 9 PM, January 6 to April 18, 2025
