SOLEDAD BARRIO & NOCHE FLAMENCA back in Montreal
With an all-new creation inspired by the work of Goya! Pure flamenco is what SOLEDAD BARRIO & NOCHE FLAMENCA offer in the show “Searching For Goya,” making its grand Canadian premiere for one night only, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at THÉÂTRE MAISONNEUVE, presented by Productions Nuits d’Afrique.
The spirit of Goya is brought to the stage through a series of scenes with an intensity rarely achieved in flamenco. Nine internationally renowned dancers, singers, and musicians demonstrate their perfect harmony, power, and agility. A performance that pushes the boundaries of the Andalusian genre, immersed in the immortal work of the painter Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828), known for the Tauromaquia engraving series (1816).
Under the artistic direction of Martín Santangelo, and featuring star dancer Soledad Barrio, “Searching For Goya” delves into 18th and 19th century Spanish history with scenes overflowing with poetry and hypnotic charm. A time-traveling journey enabled by the perfect blend of singing, guitar, and dance that forms the DNA of Noche Flamenca.
“My most fervent desires have been forged over the years by watching Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca. A moment in itself, to be experienced at all costs.” – Brian Seibert, New York Times
