PRACTICING COMMUNITY: A Sustainable Collective Practice Model

This series will prioritize a relationship to practice where we wish to be together, to meet one another. We present ourselves for ourselves and for others. We understand that the development we embark on together is relevant: when I am among other artists, we co-create, are mutually responsible, expand our ways of listening, seeing, and feeling, and thus other possibilities and growth are made accessible. Specifically, this is a model of peer training and research. It’s somewhere between a dance class and an open studio. Artists will be contacted by email before each session with proposals so that a practice plan can be created.

Schedule:

9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Tuesdays and Thursdays
April 15 to June 5, 2025
Proto Studio #1107, 5333 Casgrain Avenue, Montreal

Each session will be divided into:

30 minutes: something calm (meditative, internal, and/or postural practice)
1 hour: group work on 1 to 3 predetermined ideas together, that value the condition of doing things together, using the group
Last hour: self-directed practices in the context of a group

I offer:

  • Organization (space, equipment, correspondence)
  • Curation (creating a plan based on the group’s expressed desires)
  • Facilitation (keeping time, supporting the realization of the plan for each session)

I am looking for artist-collaborators who:

  • Wish to work in a group
  • Want regular access to practice-related resources (studio, ideas, energy, motivation, imagination…) in a financially feasible manner
  • Are willing to contribute to a developmental space through their support, energy, ideas, responsibility, presence, and attention

Who is this for? Motivated, reliable artists who have the ability and curiosity to work on collective potential, with varied ages, experiences, and backgrounds. Artists seeking to root themselves in a recurring, generative practice, and aiming to support collective imagination and vitality.
