Many of us working in the arts seek to expand possibility, dismantle oppression, and subvert normativity. So why is it that more often than not, we get caught up in reinforcing the very systems we criticize? What can we do about it? How can we unlock the radical potential of our institutions?

Join us for an intimate exchange on the question of Re-futuring the Institution. The format of this unmoderated performative discussion is modeled on Lois Weaver’s fluid Long Table public address system, where everyone sitting at the table has access to the microphone, and an unlimited number of observers surround the table.

Re-futuring the institution is a proposal that Angela Conquet dreamed up for her Sweet Discomfort series @ Dance in Vancouver festival (2021), where she invited Miriam Ginestier and Andrew Tay to explore the topic during a collaborative work session for presenters.

SPARK Series takes place during the FTA/OFFTA (end of May), taking advantage of the large presence of presenters already in town to facilitate different moments of exchange where the relational rather than the transactional is favored.
