ABOUT KRUMP
Drawing inspiration from clowning, African dances and rituals, and the frenetic gestures of MCs, krump merges movements of remarkable expressiveness and energy. Artists use their passion and emotions to tell a story, primarily using their arms, feet, and chest.
ABOUT TURFING
Turfing emerged in the 1990s within predominantly Black communities in Oakland, California. The acronym TURF reminds its practitioners to “Take Up Room on the Floor.” Besides the festive and playful aspect of the dance, a significant part of turfing lies in storytelling through pantomime and creating optical illusions with the body and movement.
