Le sacre de Lila
Inspired by the Lila ceremonies, mystical and musical celebrations from his native Morocco, Ismaël Mouaraki, in his new creation, explores trance with a group of male dancers. Through them, he also retraces his own journey before the eyes of the audience.
In Arabic, Lila means “night.” These ceremonies are a set of nocturnal healing rituals blending singing, dancing, and music, traditionally encountered in some Maghreb countries. Ismaël brings these danced rituals to the stage, infusing them with his signature contemporary urban dance style to reveal the sensitivity and sensuality of the male body. Tinted with the tastes and colors of Morocco, the artists transform the performance into a true celebration, where the exaltation of the bodies unfolds through contagious energy.
Le Sacre de Lila received the 2023 Award for Best Choreographic Work at the Montreal Dance Awards, presented by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec
