Evening Class | Benjamin Herrero — Reclaiming the body in movement

6:00PM to 7:15PM

Studio 303 – 372, rue Ste-Catherine Ouest, Montréal

Reclaiming the body is a class that aims to use movement to become aware of our body’s physical and cognitive capacities, in both an intimate and social environment, while respecting each individual’s abilities and desires. My main inspirations come from yoga, movement meditation, Gaga dance and the Feldenkrais method. Designed for all body types and with a deep desire to create a space of trust, this course aims to be a tool for initiation into movement, helping to untie the body and deconstruct blocks and assumptions through play.

Some important notions in the course: inclusivity, embodiment, fun and somatic practices.

WHAT TO BRING

Comfortable clothing, ideally covering shoulders and knees (practical on the ground)
Water bottle.

ACCESSIBILITY

The aim of this class is to create a space of trust in which to play with the limits of individual capacities. You’re invited to become aware of your physical and cognitive boundaries, while striving to go beyond them a little further each time, while respecting your own desires. Exercises will exploit movement in a fast or slow context, on the floor or in space, solo or with partners. Exercises are, and always will be, adapted to each individual’s abilities and needs, with the emphasis on the pleasure of movement.

BIOGRAPHY

Over the past 10 years, Benjamin Herrero has had the opportunity to experiment with various approaches to the body, including yoga, Qi Gong, massage therapy and various forms of contemporary dance. Certified in 2023 in Études critiques des sexualités and currently pursuing a DESS in Éducation somatique at UQAM, her approach to movement is inspired by the bodily embodiment of feminist and queer theories, as well as various holistic practices of the lived body. This class was born of all these experiences and influences, and the desire to pass on my knowledge of the body in movement.
