Jazz was born from the need to reaffirm one’s identity through the artistic medium. More specifically, jazz dance fosters self-expression through the universal nature of movement. This discovery workshop encourages the search for uniqueness in dance. In other words, it invites participants to find their own “swag” to better showcase their personality.

To achieve this, one must dare to venture into unknown territory. With improvisation as the central tool, these three creative spaces will provide an opportunity to surprise oneself:

— Body isolation exercises will encourage loosening each part of the body to discover new ways of interpreting music. — “Call and response” exercises will invite participants to engage in a danced conversation, inspired by each other’s initiatives. — The “Circle jam” and “Soul Train” will allow participants to draw from the group’s energy, providing an additional source of creativity.

This workshop aims to be an inclusive space where there are no bad ideas, only original avenues to explore.
