Workshop presented as part of the 10th anniversary of La Swing Ambassade

This workshop aims to introduce a new groove, the successor to jazz: Boogaloo/Popping. Originating from the world of street dance, this style will guide you through unique bodily paths to enhance and better embody your dance movement. Come meet an experienced dance artist who invites you to find freedom in self-expression through dance.

Boogaloo is fundamentally a funk dance style born in the African-American communities of Chicago in the 1960s. The Boogaloo culture then spread to California and had an influence on styles like popping, turfing, and strutting.

Prerequisites : Open to all

Born in Montreal to Haitian parents and specializing in street dance, Ford Mckeown Larose stands out with his unique approach to Boogaloo/Popping. Each of his steps reflects the rich heritages within him. His choreographic journey aims to set in motion the parallel universes that animate his imagination.

In 2015, he co-founded Forward Movements, a creation and production company, with Anaïs Gachet. Based in the Saint-Michel neighborhood, the company, for which he serves as artistic director, draws its roots from his artistic and cultural heritages, notably from various forms of art related to Hip Hop and Funk cultures. Applying the “remix” process of 2000s Hip Hop and RnB music, Ford revisits his artistic influences through movement to reflect the imagination that drives him.

Whether it’s inspiring youth through street dance or organizing large-scale international events, Forward Movements makes its mark from Saint-Michel to the international stage.
