Thanks to this special collaboration with Bouge de là, dance students have the same access to RQD classes as professionals, for this week only.
This season’s opening classes are offered by RQD and Bouge de là. Marianne Gignac-Girard will lead the first thirty minutes of class with material to prepare you for the basic and specific requirements of a dance class with breath work, centre work, and activating the body – solo or in pairs. The content will vary depending on the day and the group’s particular needs.
Gabrielle Surprenant-Lacasse will follow with a class inspired by modern and ballet techniques in dialogue with somatic movement approaches. Notions of suspension, control, power, and release will be addressed through floorwork, centre work and travelling combinations, allowing you to experiment taking space and taking risks in a safe and benevolent environment.
Maximum capacity: 30 people
Suggested equipment: a long-sleeved shirt (for floorwork)
After several years of ballet training, Marianne Gignac-Girard studied contemporary dance at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM), graduating in 2005.
She danced for Cirque du Soleil and O Vertigo before joining different productions with Créations Estelle Clareton and Bouge de là. She has also collaborated with several emerging artists as a performer and rehearsal director, and participates in training dancers at the EDCM.
Gabrielle Surprenant-Lacasse is currently working on presenting her latest solo, Géante. She collaborated on Glitch, Bouge de là’s latest production, and Chambres, Katia-Marie Germain’s work in progress.
Gabrielle teaches contemporary dance and ballet to adults and children in both academic and community settings. In 2020, she joined the faculty of the dance department at Collège Montmorency.
