Un laboratoire rassemblant des dramaturges de différentes disciplines ayant comme objectif d’échanger sur les meilleures pratiques et les aspects fondamentaux de chaque discipline des arts de la scène. Il n’existe aucune formation officielle de dramaturgie, les compétences sont développées par les individus par l’expérience et la pratique. Cette formation sera guidée par Kathey Casey (danse), Dana Dugan (cirque) et Sarah Elkashef (théâtre) souhaite créer un espace d’échange autour des outils et des défis des dramaturges dans une perspective interdisciplinaire. Cette formation est une opportunité de reconnaître la dramaturgie comme une forme d’art en soi.

Née à Caroline du Nord, Kathy Casey a débuté sa carrière en danse en 1979 au sein de la Chicago Moving Company. Installée à New York en 1980, elle a dansé pour plusieurs chorégraphes avant de joindre le Lar Lubovitch Dance Company en 1984. En 1989 elle devient membre du Susan Marshall & Comany, avec qui elle collabore depuis 1981. De 1985-1989 elle assiste également M. Lubovitch et Mme Marshall en création. Kathy Casey a dansé en Europe, en Asie, en Amérique du Nord et elle continue de donner de nombreux ateliers au travers du Canada et des États-Unis. Accueillie par Montréal Danse en 199, elle est nommée directrice artistique de la compagnie en 1996. Maintenant, une partie majeure de son travail est de collaborer avec des chorégraphes et des dramaturges des œuvres créées pour la compagnie. En plus de son travail avec Montréal Danse, elle travaille aussi comme conseillère artistique avec des chorégraphes indépendants.
Dana Dugan est une artiste de cirque, interprète, pédagogue et intellectuelle américaine basée à Montréal. Elle est membre fondatrice et a été programmatrice, chargée de projet et productrice du Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival et de CirqueOFF. Dana a récemment complété sa maîtrise à l’université Concordia auprès d’un groupe de recherche s’intéressant au corps circassien et la connaissance qu’il inclut et incarne. Elle continue ses explorations de recherche et performance du corps circassien et les récits spéculatifs de la performance en tant que candidate au PhD à Concordia à l’automne 2018. Le travail de Dana reflète une intention de défendre des performances préoccupées par les enjeux sociaux et les discours alternatifs, queer, féministes et politiques cultivant le pouvoir sur la scène du cirque.
Sarah Elkashef est une artiste de théâtre, avant tout dramaturge, qui travail dans le développement et la création interdisciplinaire de nouvelles pièces. Elle enseigne des ateliers de laboratoire d’écriture interdisciplinaire avec Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal et travaille aussi sur d’autres projets pour l’organisme. Elle travaille régulièrement à l’École Nationale de Théâtre du Canada en tant que dramaturge, créatrice et enseignante et en 2016 elle a reçu le prix Bernard Amyot pour son enseignement à l’école. Sarah a récemment co-créer un spectacle familiale de cirque Eat Sweet Feet et continue à travailler sur une installation et performance immersive, High Z, pour les planétariums, basé sur la découverte de l’accélération de l’expansion de l’univers qui a reçu le prix nobel en 2011. Avant de s’installer au Canada elle a été Senor Reader, au théâtre Soho à Londres, R.U.. Sarah a aussi été productrice associée, gestionnaire de compagnie, associée littéraire et plus encore à New York. Elle a obtenu un diplôme à l’Université Warwick en littérature anglaise et théâtre et détient une maîtrise en théâtre du Hunter College (CUNY, NYC) et un diplôme en communications de l’université de Concordia.

A laboratory gathering dramaturges from various disciplines to exchange best practices and fundamental aspects of live-art. There is no official training in dramaturgy, skills are nurtured by people through experimentation and creation. This training will be lead by Kathy Casey (dance), Dana Dugan (circus) and Sarah Elkashef and aims at creating a space for exchange around dramaturgical tools and challenges, in an interdisciplinary perspective. It is an opportunity to acknowledge dramaturgy as an art form.

Born in North Carolina, Kathy Casey began her dance career in 1979 with the Chicago Moving Company. Settled in New York in 1980, she danced for many choreographers before joining the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in 1984. In 1989, she became a member of Susan Marshall & Company, with whom she had collaborated since 1981. From 1985-1989, she also assisted Mr. Lubovitch and Ms. Marshall in creation. Kathy Casey has danced in Europe, Asia, and North America and continues to give numerous workshops across Canada and the United States. Welcomed by Montréal Danse in 1991, she was appointed Artistic Director of the company in March 1996. A major portion of her work now is collaborating with choreographers on the dramaturgy of the works created for the company. In addition to her work with Montréal Danse, she also works as an artistic advisor with independent choreographers in the city.
Dana Dugan is an American circus artist, performer, pedagogue, and scholar based in Montreal. She was a founding member, programmer, project manager, and producer of the Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival and CirqueOFF. Dana recently completed her Master’s Degree at Concordia University under fellowship researching the circus body and its embodied knowledge. She will continue her research explorations and performance of the circus body and speculative performance narratives as a PhD student at Concordia, Fall 2018. Dana’s work reflects an agenda that advocates for socially conscious performances and alternative, queer, feminist, political narratives that cultivate agency on the circus stage.
Sarah Elkashef is a theatre artist, primarily a dramaturg, working in new play development and interdisciplinary creation. At Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal she leads the Interdisciplinary Writer’s Lab in addition to various other projects. At the National Theatre School of Canada she often works across programs as a dramaturg, creator, and teacher and in 2016 received their Bernard Amyot Award for Teaching. Sarah recently co-created a circus show for families Eat Sweet Feet, and continues to work on High Z, an immersive performance installation for planetariums based on the 2011 Nobel prize winning discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe. Prior to settling in Canada she was the Senior Reader at Soho Theatre in London, U.K. Sarah has also been an associate producer, company manager, literary associate and more in New York City. She is a graduate of Warwick University in English Literature and Theatre (U.K.), has an M.A. in Theatre from Hunter College (CUNY, NYC), and a Graduate Diploma in Communications from Concordia University (Montreal, Canada).
