Annual General Meeting for members
October 12 and 13, 2018
We're counting on you!
Dear members,
We cordially invite you to the upcoming Annual General Meeting for members of the Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD), which takes place in Montreal on October 12 and 13, 2018.
The time has come to convene, once again. The AGM provides a great opportunity to meet your peers, renew acquaintances with collaborators, and discover new faces. Don’t miss this major event, which draws more 130 people annually, including dancers, choreographers, presenters, teachers and cultural workers.
The AGM is also a time to take stock—and what a year it’s been! In the past year, major societal issues have galvanized the media as well as our committees and board of directors. It’s also been a year of mobilization in defence of greater funding for the arts, and a year of advocacy to highlight the importance of artistic creation in Québec’s new cultural policy. In short, a great many challenges have been met in 2018, and the RQD team looks forward to sharing some of its noteworthy achievements with you at the Annual General Meeting on October 12.
This event also provides a platform for dialogue and debate on ideas. On Saturday, October 13, workshops will be presented on professional relations, systemic racism and cultural appropriation. We’ll address the complex and delicate subjects raised by the “Me Too” movement, as well as the recent shows that have sparked controversy and public debate. The RQD carefully prepares the content of these workshops-seminars-debates with the aim of creating a space for discussion open to multiple viewpoints and to a rethinking of the notion of living together.
What are our wishes for the future of the RQD and our community? Where do our concerns and misunderstandings lie? What motivates us? Let’s take full advantage of this meeting to collectively set an inspiring course for the future. Join us!
Jamie Wright and Lük Fleury
Co-Presidents of the RQD

In the morning, we will welcome lawyer Virginie Maloney of L’Aparté and a social worker to discuss issues of harassment and abuse of power. In the afternoon, a representative of Diversité artistique Montréal will outline broad concepts related to systemic racism and cultural appropriation. The RQD’s Inclusion and Living Together Committee will then report on the results of its work and lead a discussion around the questions it raises. Anyone is free to retire, if necessary, to a private, dedicated space with the resource person made available for the duration of the workshops.
