Workshop | Thea Patterson — Together and Side by Side
10:30AM to 12:30PM
This workshop proposes ways of working together and side by side through delicate frameworks of shared space. We explore weak methods (a method of inquiry), live composition, sensory crossing, somatic memory, anti-spectacle, and a dramaturgy of micro-events. The direction of our time spent together will then emerge from these frameworks.
Not prescribed, nor taught… but following a clear score, the workshop unfolds through the activation of the group, the day, the atmosphere… This “Together and Side by Side” emphasizes slowness and an attention to waiting and observation. It invites us to question our conception of work, or what constitutes work, in order to create space for other temporalities or ecosystems of work.
CONTENT
This workshop goes against predetermined content… or the idea that the leader holds mastery or special knowledge. It is here to facilitate a space where we can be together… and work side by side as we engage in a pre-established time structure.
We will explore various activities, some predetermined and others chosen collectively: reading, writing, napping, dancing, helping/assisting, looking out the window, rolling, improvising movement (or not), following, taking objects out of our bags, gossiping*, feeling…
Within the structure, we will be mostly autonomous in our tasks, but we will also work together and side by side as we explore or work on things that intrigue us… a sort of generative collaborative work entity emerges…
