Workshop | Victoria Mackenzie — Floor.Workshop

9:30AM to 12:30PM

Studio 303 - 372, rue Ste Catherine Ouest, Montréal

Floor.workshop is a class designed for dancers who want to enrich their vocabulary and deepen their personal approach when integrating floor work into their exploration. Floor work not only involves movements performed on the floor, but also how we include floor transitions in our dance and how we move between standing and being on the ground.

This workshop includes general techniques and conceptual approaches, making the class an open playground for dancers from diverse backgrounds. We will take the time to understand our personal entry points into the proposed material and build signature movements inspired by the presented concepts. To test how we integrate the generated material, we will use freestyle, an important part of the class.

The class requires courage. Participants will be guided through exercises that involve taking risks and require trial and error, resulting in falls. Analyzing movement sequences is vital for developing more dynamic actions: we will clarify moments that generate momentum and those that build power. Participants will be guided throughout the exercises, encouraging them to go beyond the technical precision of the most challenging movements while allowing room for personal expression and musicality.
