Seeking for Technical Director Assistant — MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels)

The MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) is seeking to fill a permanent position on its team, that of Technical Director Assistant.

The role of the Technical Director Assistant is to assist the Technical Director in his or her coordination duties, and to ensure that artists are welcomed at MAI venues and that shows run smoothly from a technical standpoint. This person participates in the general maintenance of material and equipment, the set-up and dismantling of performing arts and visual arts events and all other activities in MAI’s presentation spaces (theater + gallery + café-bar).

Main Responsibilities

Assistance with technical coordination
– Attendance at MAI programming events
– In the absence of the Technical Director, provide technical support for performances in the theater, in collaboration with the box office and café team, as well as the artists and stage manager; ensure compliance with technical safety rules and standards for MAI workers and users.
– Provide technical support for activities presented in the café or any other special event.
– Assist the Technical Director in the logistical preparation and technical coordination of events.
– Close the gallery before shows.
– Closing of the exterior doors (by-pass) of the theater, gallery, technical office and warehouse, after shows or other activities.
– Reports to Technical Director on progress of activities and changes to production schedules.
– Monitor security of premises and equipment during working hours.

Maintenance of technical equipment and facilities
– Maintenance of technical equipment and materials, as recommended by the Director.
– Maintenance of electrical wiring and sound equipment.
– Restoration of gallery, theater and café (painting, plastering, etc.).
– Participate in the construction of all types of props, using specialized tools (according to safety rules).

Set-up and dismantling
– Set-up and dismantling of performing arts events, exhibitions and other events at MAI
– Assembly and dismantling of bleachers
– Support for technical deliveries

Related tasks
– Secretarial work and filing of technical files
– Help set up work areas (offices, rehearsal rooms, etc.)
– Assisting café staff in filling supplies
– All other related tasks

Profile required

Requirements: Training and experience in stage technology
Excellent ability to work as part of a team, to react quickly and to work under pressure
Excellent autonomy, initiative and dynamism
Fluent in French, good knowledge of English

Conditions of employment

Location: in person at 3680 rue Jeanne-Mance, Montreal
Position: permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)
Schedule: variable according to activities: days, evenings and weekends
Salary: starting at $25/hour, to be discussed according to experience
Includes 4 weeks vacation, mental health days and wellness package
