Massage Therapy – Georgia Benner Ross

About me:

With nearly 10 years of experience in the field, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a unique blend of training to each massage session. Core to my philosophy of practice is the belief that we heal ourselves and that we are the only “experts” of our own bodies. My role is simply to show up with curiosity, deep listening, and compassion as I work, thus facilitating the possibility for healing to happen. I lead a trauma informed practice that highlights creating safer space.

I have had the honor of receiving and learning from many great bodywork teachers since my teenage years. My intuitive understanding of massage led me on a journey of training where I delved deep into the art of bodywork. I have studied with teachers whom I admire for their insights and approaches to life. I followed an extensive apprenticeship under Larch Hanson (Structural Integration practitioner), Jim Lewis, an original disciple of Ida Rolf, and received massage certification at the Pacific Centre for Awareness & Bodywork, which focused on the following modalities: Structural Integration, Myofascial release, Lomi Lomi, Deep Tissue, and Swedish massage. Additionally, I trained both in DermoNeuroModulating and Chi Nei Tsang. My most current training in Syntropy is with Shari Sunshine in Auroville, India.

Modalities Practiced:

Syntropy is a neuromuscular approach drawing largely from the bodywork principles of Feldenkrais. As opposed to looking for tension or “problems” in the body, this approach focuses on what IS working and trusts in the body’s innate wisdom and ability to transform itself. We search for the “Yes” or natural movement of the body and use that as base to then begin to explore new movement possibilities. Sessions are participatory in nature, often calling for awareness and sometimes movement, resistance, and release as tools to be able listen, feel, become curious and allow change to happen. This work can be done fully clothed.

Rolfing/Structural Integration is a slow, deep myofascial practice that looks to bring balance and alignment in the body. While many of the Rolfing techniques I use remain the same, my take is different than traditional Rolfing in that I look more to one’s internal sense of alignment and ease in the body rather than focus on outward image and symmetry. I use postural assessment, active movement and participation, vocalization of perceived and felt sense in the body, and specific manual techniques to help people discover new ways of moving, feeling and inhabiting their bodies.

I blend various modalities that I practice in order to create a unique experience that is tailored to the needs of each person. All the bodywork I offer can be done as stand-alone sessions or through a series of sessions.
