Talking Circle with Ismaël Mouaraki

The Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD) welcomes you to its third discussion circle for 2019. This circle will be led by choreographer Ismaël Mouaraki, winner of the 2019 Prix de la danse de Montréal.

Mouaraki is a French-Canadian dancer and choreographer from Morocco. He is also the artistic director of Destins Croisés, a company he founded in 2003. He combines his urban dance roots with contemporary performing arts and questions the individual, societal, and cultural issues through his work. He will discuss his experience, his life as an immigrant artist, and his thoughts about a combination of topics related to inclusiveness, decolonization, contacts, and “adaptation” to changing realities facing artist diversity and removing boundaries.

Hosted by Valérie Lessard and based on the principle of equal speaking time, this circle is a continuation of our first discussion on September 30 on cultural appropriation and intercultural contacts. It is also a continuation of our circle that took place during the 2019 RQD Rendez-vous annuel des membres. Decolonizing the choreographic art term was the topic of discussion.

On December 2, you will be welcome at the café of the MAI from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The doors open from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., after which they will remain closed to foster the spirit of disclosure that these discussions require.
