Dance Training Support Program

The Dancer Training Support Program is implemented to assist dancers, choreographers, and rehearsal directors in financing a portion of their dance training costs. It aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of dance professionals in Quebec.

 

Program Objectives:

 

  •  Support physical training efforts to meet the demands of being a performer, choreographer or rehearsal director
  • Alleviate the financial burden of training activities on individuals in these professions.
  • Maintain a level of excellence and optimal employability conditions in the field
  • Prevent or reduce the risk of injury.
To benefit from the program, follow the steps below:
  1. Check your eligibility
    Review the terms of the Dancer Training Support Program.
  2. Make sure you are a member of the RQD
    To qualify for the Dancer Training Support Program, you must be a member of RQD. Become a member or renew your membership now!BECOME A MEMBERRENEW MY MEMBERSHIP
  3. Register
    Fill out the eligibility application form for the Dancer Training Support Program via the RQD membership form above.Attention! You need to do this every year to benefit from the program.
  4. Claim your reimbursements
    Fill out the online claim form in your member area no later than three (3) months after the payment date of the activities listed on your receipts.

Who is eligible for the Program?

To be eligible for the Dancer Training Support Program, dancers, choreographers, and rehearsal directors must be active members of RQD. Admission requirements may vary depending on the membership category. They must also provide the required supporting documents, such as diplomas or proof of professional engagement. See the program terms for more information.

What types of training are reimbursed?

The program reimburses expenses related to various types of dance training, including:

  • Dance classes and workshops
  • Subscriptions to dance training programs
  • Continuing education

Trainings can be attended in-person or online and can come from anywhere in the world, except if they already receive a subsidy from Emploi-Québec.

What are the requirements for receipts to be eligible for reimbursement?

Receipts must be official, detailed, and validated by the organization or professional offering them.

Which expenses are not refundable?

Fees for fitness assessments, studio rentals, or training equipment are not refundable.
Voluntary contributions will not be refunded.

What is the maximum amount reimbursed?

The amount reimbursed depends on the membership category at RQD. Here are the reimbursement amounts based on your situation :

  • For apprentice members: Reimbursement is 40% of the training cost (before taxes), up to a maximum of $500 per year, depending on available funds;
  • For professional individual or corporate members: Reimbursement is also 40% of the training cost (before taxes), up to a maximum of $700 per year, depending on available funds.

Coverage for Injuries during a dance training 

 

Dancers admitted to the Dancer Training Support Program are protected by CNESST in case of injury or accident during training that is not part of an employment contract, is supervised and specialized in dance, and is conducted in-person in Quebec.

Read section 7 of the program terms for the conditions under which CNESST covers you within the framework of the program.

The terms of this agreement are provided by the Regulation respecting the implementation of the Agreement on the professional dance training program.

If you are an admitted performer in the program and have suffered a work-related accident during training that is not part of an employment contract, is supervised and specialized in dance, and is conducted in-person in Quebec, consult the Steps with CNESST page or contact RQD immediately at info@quebecdanse.org to find out how to submit a claim to CNESST. Your request will be treated confidentially.

7.2 What to do in case of injury

The performer who is injured during training must:

1- Inform the person supervising his/her class or training and designate a witness.

2- Consult a physician within 48 hours of the incident. The physician must provide a medical certificate identified as CNESST and a prescription for treatment.

3- Notify the RQD by e-mail at info@quebecdanse.org to open a CNESST file.

The Dance Training Support Program receives financial support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

 

[1] A performance is considered professional when it is performed by artists recognized as professionals by their peers, in an event also recognized as professional. 2] In calculating the eight (8) dance performances, the RQD does not take into account those performed in an academic or amateur context. [3] Due to the closure of concert halls between 2020 and 2023, the RQD accepts performances over a period of five (5) years instead of two (2) years, non-consecutively. 4] Contracts cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic remain valid and can therefore be submitted as supporting documents.
